Both teams were very relevant throughout the 1970s and early 1980s; however, neither team has reached an ALCS since 1997, when Baltimore lost to the Cleveland Indians. The Royals last made the ALCS in 1985, a year in which they won the World Series in 7 games against St. Louis.
